The Benthic Zone is the area below the pelagic Zone, but doesn’t include the deepest parts of the ocean. The bottom of the zone consists of sand, silt, and/or dead organisms. Temperature decreases as depth increase toward the abyssal zone. This is because light cannot penetrate through the water that far. Flora are primarily seaweeds, fungi and sponges. Fauna are primarily include bacteria, sea anemones, worms, Sea stars and fishes.
